Our Dry stacked stone walls look great in less formal, more natural garden settings. Typically dry stacked stone walls dont require as much drainage preparation as a masonry or railroad tie wall because water is able to pass through the small gaps in stone relieving hydraulic pressure from our carolina clay soils.
All Natural Stone Masonry Retaining Walls require at bare minimum a foundation drain and drain stone installed behind the wall to alleviate hydraulic pressure build up that can topple a wall in just a few short years. If the retaining wall is located at the bottom of a large slope additional drainage considerations may be necessary to ensure the longevity of the wall.
Railroad tie retaining walls also require a drain pipe and gravel to be installed behind the wall to alleviate hydraulic pressure build up, and ensure structural longevity.
